Words of Wisdom

I had another birthday this past week... they just keep coming, but as I always say, it beats the alternative!   It was last year this time that I started this blog, and although it hasn't gone where I thought it would, it still has been such a reminder to me to live life to the fullest and make each day count.  Always aspiring to do more, feel more, be more!  To "Be Someone," to be my best ME!
Yesterday, I made a trip to downtown Houston and this is what I saw on I-45, how timely!!

When I first enjoyed Bob Bufords book "Half Time" I was inspired to make the second half, or in my view My Third Act more significant.  These wise words are from his follow up book "Beyond Halftime" and inscribed on my heart!
The Adventure of life is to Learn,
The Goal of life is to Grow,
The Nature of life is to Change,
The Challenge of life is to Overcome,
The Essence of life is to Care,
The Secret of life is to Dare,
The Beauty of life is to Give
The Joy of life is to Love.

I hope you'll go out today
and spread some joy to someone else!!

The Season of Lent... of Gratitude, Giving back and Growing closer to God

Hi Friends!  Okay, so I have been a little neglectful of My Third Act lately... have you missed me?  I've been putting a little more time and energy into my art blog.   I've always concentrated on pen and ink home sketches, but lately, I've been intrigued by watercolor and have been antsy to try and capture some special places.

The season of Lent is a time of reflection,...for Gratitude, Giving Back and Growing closer to God... the three things that are my primary focus for this blog.  So, I thought I'd share with you a sneak peak of my next post. My second in a series of who-knows-how-many, continuing through Easter Sunday.
I hope you'll join me there...

Luke 5:11

Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will fish for people." So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

I recently read "Twelve Ordinary Men" by John MacArthur.  It's a great book about the call and ministry of Jesus' apostles.  Twelve regular guys, people like you and me, from various walks of life, chosen to carry on the name of Jesus Christ.  Not the richest or smartest men in their community, and not the ones with celebrity status or best known.... just twelve guys who believed in Christ and were willing to walk away from their livelihoods, and their families to be His hands and His feet going forward.
So I must ask myself... I'm just an average person, leading a pretty ordinary life...what can I do to advance His Kingdom?

Life is a "mazing"

"The only time you should ever look back
is to see how far you've come!"

The journey of life is interesting to say the least...sometimes I have felt like I'm on top of the world, and at times I have felt like I'm stuck in a hole... but lately it's been like I'm walking in circles!  That's when I know it's time to reflect, look back to see how far I've come... and then I can sing out "You've come a long way, baby!"

All of my past, ALL of it, is what made me the person I am right now, Today.  It is a journey!!  The hardest lessons, the lowest lows, in retrospect, have ultimately been the first step toward some of my biggest blessings!  These circles I walk now...I know are preparing for a giant leap forward...

And for that I am grateful.

Happy New Year

Happy 2016!!

New Year Resolutions.... where would I be without them... probably in exactly the same place that I am now!

This year, I come back to the old favorite...  eat healthy, exercise more and loose ten pounds!  I've had the same resolution for most of my life, every year, same ten pounds!!

I resolve to spend less time on social media, computer games and other time wasting, mindless activities.  I will be present in the moment and with the people I love, read more, learn more and even daydream a little bit more!

I resolve to re-focus my thoughts and activities on Gratitude and Giving Back... and by posting it here, it will keep me accountable and hopefully inspire others to do the same.  It's not that I haven't been grateful or giving, but by not intentionally focusing on it, I haven't felt as fulfilled as I was when I did!

I think it's really true that "we are what we think about" so, to keep in the attitude of gratitude frame of mind I will keep a journal of my favorite gratitude or giving back moment of each day and share it here at the end of each month.

Care to join me??
